My students need a variety of leveled guided reading books. A variety of leveled fiction and non-fiction books are important to not only teach students how to read but also keep them interested.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I know many teacher say this but my second grade bilingual students are the sweetest children. They are learning how to acclimate to a school setting and many are learning how to acclimate to a new country. Being in a bilingual setting allows them to use their native language and be comfortable with their cultural practices while learning English and the being welcoming school environment.
My students are all English Language Learners in a title one school.
Even though my students are faced with many challenges, their willingness to grow and learn amazes me each and every day. They are ready to show resilience, strength and kindness even at the young age of 7-8 years old.
My Project
It is so important for students to look at reading as a fun and exciting hobby. Especially if English is not a students first language which is the case in my classroom. Students should engage in a variety of books which hold their interest, which can be either fiction or non-fiction books.
A variety of books that students can read will open up doors in their education and the world around them.
Guided reading is a way to teach students how to read by meeting them at their entry level. It can be tedious if you are using the same books over and over to teach students the different strategies they need in order to read. My students will find it exciting and enjoy reading new books at their different levels while engaging in their guided reading lessons.
