Do you remember when you were learning to read, how you felt when you held a book and were able to read some or all of the words on the page? I am trying to help my children find a love of reading, to hold a book and think, "I can read and understand this book!"
I have a mix of General and Special Education children in my classroom.
We are in a low economic area and have limited support at home. Some of my children do not have books at home where they can practice reading. I need these tools to give my children the support that they need to help them to become successful readers.
My Project
I have requested various sets of leveled readers to help my children to read on Kindergarten or First grade level. I have asked for multiple copies of the leveled readers so that I can have guided reading groups to introduce strategies to my students so that they will grow as readers.
With these books students will be able to see illustrations that match the print, learn about concepts of prints and discover new sight words. I asked for multiple books of the same title so that we can have groups of children reading the same books so that we can have a group discussion about the story elements.
Reading is something that everyone needs to know how to do.
If you cannot read, you will struggle in every aspect of your life. I want to help my children be the best that they can be. With these readers they will be able to read books that are on their reading level and practice reading. We will use these readers to learn new strategies.
