Do you remember how it felt to be able to read and comprehend a book for the first time? The feeling you got after you found a book that you love and couldn't put down because it was that good?
My students do not have a lot of materials at home to help them become better readers.
Guided reading is a tool that is used to help them grow as readers. If done daily, the child can really move up reading levels pretty fast. The books that I have requested are at various levels so that in September I would be able to start with the Pre K books; I hope to be working on a low first grade level before the year is over
My Project
I have requested various sets of books so that I have the material needed to help the various levels in my classroom to become readers. My classroom is a mix of Special and General education students. I want to have the materials I need to do guided reading lessons daily.
As a Kindergarten teacher I am the first person who will introduce children to the love of reading.
I want to have materials that are on their level and are interesting to them. Guided Reading is important because it gives them time to practice their reading and learn new strategies, while having quality time with teacher doing small group work. Students need to have books that they are interested in and they are able to read independently.
