My 80 awesome students are continually striving to learn to read or perfect their reading.
We practice guided reading daily, and students are able to take home books from my classroom library on their independent reading level.
My Project
Guided reading is key in learning to read. It is small group (4-6 students) instruction where students get individualized attention with the teacher. Studies have shown that small groups are the most efficient and successful way to teach students. It individualizes the instruction and is tailor-made for each student's academic needs.
This project helps to organize the numerous guided reading books in one room for teachers to easily access for the students.
The locker shelves allow for more books to fit into our built-in storage space. Currently, the guided reading books are located in several rooms throughout the building, making it hard for teachers to hunt down the exact books they need. With these shelves, we can house the books together in one easy place for teachers to access.
