Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you recall reading books that you just didn't understand? Perhaps they didn't make sense because they were too hard and at a frustration level?. It is very important that students know their independent reading level and have access to the right books so that reading won't become frustrated.
My students are residents of South Central Los Angeles.
They live in an impoverished side of town where gang violence and hardships are the norm. The majority of my students qualify for federally funded meal programs and spend countless hours in after school programs. They live with very little but strive to improve themselves through education. They always greet you with a smile and are eager to learn. They know at such an early age that a good education will give them the tools to succeed.
My Project
Please help my students by donating the Classic Birch Mobile Book Organizer and a variety of sentence strips so that we can have a classroom library that is well organized. Students will learn to be better readers if they practice reading books that are at their particular instructional level. If I can provide a classroom library where books are categorized by lexical levels I know my students will greatly improve their reading. In addition I am requesting a variety of sentence strips so can post predictions and questions regarding the books that they are reading in our classroom library.
All students deserve the right to the best public education regardless of their zip code.
