This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Reading is the key to success. I want to give my students the best opportunity to be successful in the future!
My school is a low-income Title 1 school with limited resources.
My students come from homes where they may not get extra support and interventions that they need. Many parents are not involved in helping their students academically, so it is my job to make sure each student meets the kindergarten standards and is prepared for first grade. My students are respectful and eager to learn.
My Project
My students will use the guided reading books at my literacy centers. I will work with my students in small groups to practice basic reading skills. I will focus on sight word recognition, reading fluency, decoding, and comprehension. My students will begin to read independently and with partners, discussing their thoughts and experiences with each other and beginning their love for reading.
Learning to read will help my students be successful in all aspects of their life.
I will use the leveled books to teach each student at their instructional level. I will be able to differentiate and challenge all of the students in my class to grow and learn.
