Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have some of the most amazing students, however because of their economic status, they are constantly doubted by even their families. Most of my children come from a place of chaos, so having a safe environment in the classroom is a must. I have seen my students progress from deep behavior interventions to becoming role models. Not to mention, because of their behavior improving, their academics have skyrocketed. I love my kids, and I am so proud to be their teacher.

My Project

This school year I've realized that a lot of the students in my class are driven by data. There has been various days that my students will initiate conversations, back up their answers, and inform others based on research they've done. In order to feed into what makes them successful, I've created multiple lesson plans where students are finding data and demonstrating in various ways (ex. presentations, bar charts, circle charts, canvas) to the rest of the class. My only concern is that our school is not a 1:1 with student and computer.

Although we use a lot of literature to find information, teaching them how to fully use Microsoft or Google Apps to demonstrate data is difficult when we have limited computers.

Our district took an initiative to only use Apple products, so the few Chromebooks we have are being discontinued. Although the number of iPads won't fully place us to a 1:1 ratio, it will help us with the overall small number of Macbooks we have.
