Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a school counselor in a small town named Refugio, which is near the gulf coast in Texas. Hurricane Harvey rocked our world nearly 4 years ago in August of 2017 and we are still recovering. The COVID-19 pandemic has provided additional challenges.
Even though we are still in the middle of a pandemic, the show must go on!
Our job as educators is to make sure that our students continue to grow and learn every day in the classroom.
My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging activities that allow them to explore and learn new things. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take chances in order to grow both personally and academically.
My Project
These guidance lessons offer fun, interactive activities for meaningful, experiential learning. Some of the topics that are covered include growth mindset, goal setting, impulse control, making friends, expressing emotions, responsibility, and kindness. Each grade level has a corresponding theme. Since the lessons are different for each grade level, I will be able to re-use these lessons year after year.
As a new school counselor, I am limited on the amount of resources that I have.
The resources that I have chosen will allow me to provide guidance lessons all year long.
