Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is in a low income area, and yet we are excited to help our students engage in learning. Many of our students are ESL and all students receive free lunch to help ensure a meal for breakfast and lunch for all students.

Our school emphasizes reading and math, as well as teaching the whole student.

We want our students to be critical thinkers, creative, able to collaborate with peers, care for each other, and good communicators in order to be ready for the jobs that are not even created yet.

My Project

Growth Mindset is a great way to my students that failure is a way to train our brains, that mistakes actually help our brains grow. We begin the year learning about our brain and neuron through books and using "Finding Nemo" characters Marlin and Dory. We learn that we have the choice to let fear get in our way or take chances and make mistakes and see what great

This year I would like to make having a Growth Mindset at school AND family focus in my classroom.

We will be sending home Dory, the Brain, and Neuron along with books for families to read together to help understand what a growth mindset means. Together with parents, we can build students who persevere, are willing to take risks and be ok with failing and see how our brains grow over the course of the year through documenting in our class Growth Mindset journal.
