My Students
As an ESL teacher and General Ed teacher working in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
90% of my students come from an immigrant family with working parents.
"Experience more by seeing more" is my goal for all my students.
They are working hard to learn about the math in their life and try to use the math skill they learned in their daily lives to help their parents and families.
I want to help my students build a "productive struggle" mindset this year to help them conquer any math or life difficulties in the future.
My Project
The students in my First-grade ESL classes need educational math games that will get students excited about math! The students in our classes are hungry to learn and thoroughly enjoy games that make them grow and think! Studies show that students learn best when they are able to apply the information that they are being taught, which is why it is important to let students choose games to play with. Math is something that is all around us and if our students can find a passion for math at a young age, they will learn to be critical thinkers. Some of the items I have chosen to include in this project are a building block set, creative pattern logic games, place value games and fidget toys to help students focus.
