Growing World Readers (Future Leaders)

Help me give my students a diverse classroom library that introduces them to new reading adventures.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Nesmith's classroom raised $304

This project is fully funded

My Students

My students are creative, compassionate and eager to learn. We are a school with a STEAM initiative with a focus on agriculture. The students work in collaborative groups on various STEAM focused projects and activities. Using the school wide design thinking process, the students develop a plan to solve hands-on activities and challenges. Through Project-based learning the students use critical thinking skills to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts being taught. The integration of the tablets and educational apps in the class would provide the students the opportunity to include more technology in the learning process.

My Project

Help provide my students with a diverse classroom library. The books and novels will update our classroom library which will provide students with the opportunity to choose books from diverse subject areas. This will expose students to content areas that they may not be familiar with and increase their vocabulary and content knowledge. The materials will provides the students with a variety of books to choose from the various genres.

The benefits of an updated classroom library will increase students love of reading.

Students will be able to choose books that interests them during their independent reading time. Student engagement will increase when they choose a book and are able to make personal connections with the characters or content area. This will also increase student discussions with their peers about the book(s) that they have read.

In the classroom the materials will also be used to teach reading comprehension skills and strategies during whole group instruction. For example, students will be able to compare and contrast fairytales and fractured fairytales. Students will be able to analyze the story elements and character development. An updated classroom library will help to grow students' love of reading.
