This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in the second smallest city in Los Angeles County. Our elementary school is 400 students strong. We have 1 percent African American, and 98 percent Latinos. We have a 90 percent socioeconomically disadvantaged population and 4 percent foster youth. 100% of our students get free lunch. Despite the many challenges they face, my students arrive every morning full of life, ready to learn, and excited to get started on our day. I do my best to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
There is no better way to learn about life cycles than seeing the stages first hand.
Watching caterpillars morph into beautiful butterflies is an unforgettable experience I would love to share with my first graders!
I have included reading books, visuals and manupulatives that my first graders can use to learn about life cycles.
I plan to use these materials in centers to allow my students to explore and learn about butterflies. The coupons will allow me to order the caterpillars and display them in my classroom until they have reached the butterfly stage. I cannot wait to see the excitement in their faces.
