Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The beautiful children that make up my third classroom are a lovely mixture of ethnicities, gender, ability levels and socioeconomic statuses. Every day they enter my classroom eager to learn and full of enthusiasm. My day begins with countless hugs, silly stories, and endless giggles. My students actively work on creating an environment that nurtures acceptance, support and trust. It is very common to walk into my classroom and see students helping one another on assignments, collaborating on projects, engaging in various activities, and taking ownership for their learning.
My students are taught to be active learners.
They learn skills that help them problem solve and tackle problems in an effective way. Every corner, resource, and visual in my classroom is used throughout their learning experience. No matter the level of my students, they learn to give their best effort.
My Project
Last year, I taught second grade. This year I moved up to third grade, and I've been surprised and delighted with the way my third graders love to read.
Third grade readers are excited readers, and I need YOUR help to keep them excited!
My kids are moving beyond picture books and early readers, branching out into chapter books and non-fiction on all the topics under the sun.
Sadly, the library that moved with me from second to third grade isn't equipped to handle their broad range of abilities and interests. I'm stuck in the land of picture books still, or at least my classroom library is. I have students in my classroom who are ready for books several levels above third grade and I have nothing to offer them.
With your help, we can change that! With your help, I can overhaul my third graders' library, keeping them excited and challenged and ready to learn! I'm asking for a variety of fiction and nonfiction books. The topics of these books range from creepy night crawlers to fairy princesses. I tried my best to selects books that would meet the many unique interests of my students. I would love to have a classroom library where my students can run to when one of their amazing questions pops in their heads. My students can devour books at an amazing pace. My small collection of donated chapter books are less than desirable. I have little to no nonfiction chapter books and my fiction selection has years of wear and tear. I have tried my best to add to my collection but at the rate I'm going this library will be ready fall 2020.
Thank you in advance for your support! It means so much to me...and especially to my kids.
