Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students are inquisitive, eager to learn new things and ready for expanding their learning to the garden space we are developing in the courtyard. Having the proper tools to do our investigations and observations for our Garden Education units will help students reach their goals for a deep understanding of where food comes from, and all of the many layers of learning that happen in a natural space.

My students look forward to getting their hands into the soil and learning more about our natural environment.

My Elementary is a Title l school, with a large population of students experiencing financial hardship and food insecurity. Support for this project will ensure that my students have the chance to learn a transferable life-skill, and will develop a large vocabulary base. As multilingual learners, my students have learn best by doing a Living Classroom helps to support literacy in many ways.

By providing a pop-up canopy, students will have opportunities to conduct their investigations and record their observations during all types of weather. This will offer shelter from the rain and protection from the sun’s hot rays. Tools necessary for our nature investigations and food production are trowels, gloves and kneeling pads for breaking ground/sowing seeds. Keeping students dry and comfortable is very important in the living classroom.

Hand lenses will be used to get a closer look at the natural world and its inhabitants. Once seeds are sown, plant labels are placed and our Living Classroom is growing, water will be a key element. With a hose and reel cart. students will be able to keep the garden space hydrated and hazard free. A storage box is needed to keep the tools in one location and readily available for all classes to use.

Help support students grow their Living Classroom.
