This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in an urban area wherein 100% of the students qualify for the free lunch program. We are a Title 1 school facing educational cuts. Hence, our students lack educational resources such as books, magazines, computers and even paper, scissors and crayons.
My second graders are inquisitive, dynamic and eager to learn about the world around them.
These enthusiastic second language learners deserve the opportunity to engage with the tools that will prepare them to compete in life. A laptop, as a learning tool, will allow me to present educational videos, interactive lessons to the whole class. Providing this experience will facilitate comprehensibility and heighten students’ conceptualization of knowledge.
My Project
Because a laptop is a hands-on tool it will increase the students’ interest to explore and learn more about subject areas. As students acquire information, they will create PowerPoint presentations, type notes and compose essays. In the process, students will grow to articulate their learning using academic knowledge. It is my goal to empower my students with 21st century skills.
Some of my students have never been to the beach and many will never have a chance to travel outside of the state.
A laptop will become the only vehicle these children will have to learn about the world.
