My students need kitchen supplies, a classroom cooking kit, and kid-friendly cookbooks to learn how to create meals using fruits/vegetables from our classroom garden.

My Students
Is there a better way to reach students and teach them tons of concepts across the curriculum than through their stomachs? I think not! As the saying goes, if you want a child (or anyone, for that matter) to learn something, you should sing it to them, or feed it to them. Please help us Feed USA!
My students are so excited about learning and growing.
These 27 children work hard every day to better themselves in the hopes that they can learn about and participate in our world. Although my students are from low socioeconomic, vulnerable backgrounds, they have the desire and drive necessary to be successful, contributing citizens. I am so proud of all they accomplish. This group of children inspires me!
My Project
Children love to cook, and the classroom provides a wealth of opportunities for them to do so. A cooking activity is a great change of pace for students and is also a good reinforcement of the early learning of life skills. Cooking blends particularly well with math, reading, and science.
Children are increasingly the caretakers of their own nutrition. Children who do not know how to cook often rely on packaged foods throughout the day. For a growing number of students, nutrition education can really work when concepts are practical and applied, emphasizing skills like sanitation, safe food handling, and basic food preparation skills. Cooking projects give children a boost in confidence, exposure to new and healthful foods, and often provide the curiosity and motivation to continue cooking at home.
With the materials we can take the food we have grown in our garden (from our previous FEED USA Donors Choose project) and learn how to make healthy meals and make our own cookbooks.
My students, because they are from high poverty situations, are in desperate need of developing healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
This project will help them do just that. Giving these children opportunities to learn, grow, and share their knowledge in their home environments is key to their success. Learning how to manage their way around a kitchen by practicing in the safe and controlled environment of our classroom is a first step in establishing lifelong skills and abilities.
