Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in an undeserved low socioeconomic community that benefit greatly by engaging in hands on engaging activities. Many of my students are new to english and a lot even new to country so exposure is important for their educational experience. The students I serve have linguistic and academic gaps that need to be filled and with more engaging resources that can be provided will enrich the learning environment.
The power of my learners lie within their creativity and their ability to bring ideas to life.
Creation is one of the most powerful tools that all educators need to implement. My students love learning and are hungry for new opportunities.
My Project
My classroom is set to be a STEAM student centered enriching experience. Currently we do not have a lot of technology that could be utilized to expose the learners to new engineering practices.
I plan to utilize the drones to provide a holistic STEAM approach to learning with drones rather than just learning how to operate and basic functions.
The science that will be covered are concepts such as speed, acceleration, and motion. The technology will be drone parts and technical systems involved. Engineering will include coding and problem solving used by exploring search and rescue tactics with retrieval tactics. in addition my learners come form many different cultures so I will also incorporate artistic concepts such as coding them as a class to dance with a song and possible building an extension to hold a pencil and code them to draw. Lastly mathematics will be embedded in all coding experiences so that computational skill and mathematical recognition will show gains without having them in a traditional format.
Students have great potential but without exposure many learners stay within the confides of their environment. Getting my students to build that confidence in the area of STEAM will give them a great foundation with entering secondary education as well as prepare them for the technology based industry. My goal is to increase the underserved, minority, and female presence in STEAM fields.
