This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The students I work with are full of joy and love to learn in creative ways! Although some of my students have limited resources and have behavioral, medical, and academic needs, they crave learning and structure. Many are balancing English as a second language, so meaningful materials that appeal to all learning styles are key. Some of the students live in group homes or foster homes and it can be a challenge to find motivating activities that will engage them. In addition, my students enjoy hands-on learning materials that they can manipulate to gain sensory input.
My students are creative learners and this extends to how they access their curriculum in unique ways that include VOD access, picture icons, gestures, AAC technology, vocalizations, verbalizations, communication core boards, and other functional methods of communication.
Please help give us additional button maker supplies, circle beads, and flower beads, so my students can create motivational flair and beaded keychains that they can wear. My students take pride in their learning and would love to showcase their growth and success by displaying it for all to see. This will also be a great way to connect with students when they have their birthdays. We can make custom buttons and keychains so each student feels appreciated. Additionally, these buttons and keychains can be a unique way to communicate with parents. Students' speech goals can be added to the image for all to see and know what to work on. These visuals will help remind them to practice each day. Thanks for supporting our project!
