Growing & Showing Urban & Hydroponic Food Production
Help me give my students equipment to record, market and share their urban hydroponic food production project to impact food insecurity and encourage healthy eating in their community.
Great things happen in Agriculture Education every day! Miami-Dade Ag teachers empower students to change their world through community-minded action. This project will enable students to show the world how we grow healthy food on campus to impact food insecurity in the community through urban and hydroponic food production. The materials chosen will help capture the amazing work the students are doing and provide them the opportunity to capture and share their work to teach others how to grow their own food and encourage increased intake of healthy, fresh foods to improve diets and access to affordable fresh foods within the community. The students and I will use the donated materials to create traditional blogs, newsletters, informational brochures (printer), and expand our social and communication impact through vlogs, YouTube and Instagram (Go Pro and accessories) content that will expand our community engagement and information sharing. Visual media is worth a thousand words!! By incorporating active journalism and social media for Ag sake, we will be able to develop valuable, transferable skills that will allow us to showcase our Salads-To-Go events, fresh food taste tests, food demonstrations, school-based farmers markets, and diverse work-based learning activities in the garden and hydroponic plant production labs. These materials will exponentially improve our journalistic marketing skills and increase awareness of the effectiveness of Ag education to impact global issues like food insecurity, adolescent obesity and overall health and wellness.
