This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In order to grow readers, library shelves need a variety of books to inspire all students, giving them book choice, making it hard to pick from the great selections. This project includes picture books of all types. Many of these picture books help to teach students social-emotional skills, such as dealing with anger, while others focus on holidays and cultural awareness. The value of good books cannot be understated in helping students to grow as individuals and readers.
To quote Charles Baudelair, "A book is a garden, an orchard, a storehouse, a party, a company by the way, a counselor, a multitude of counselors." As the quote says, for some students the social-emotional lesson or connection to a story theme becomes like a counselor at a much needed time.
Other times, readers just read for "fun" and the book is party for them! Maybe the right book is company for the lonely child.
The books in this project will not only help students navigate feelings, but also connect them to diverse cultures, and give them beautiful choice as they peruse the shelves. and pick out the perfect book for them. These books will help them grow as readers, but also to grow as human beings.
