My students need emergent readers to help build their literacy skills in small group instruction. These books will help complete the reading sets we already have as well as add to our collection.
Our first grade students are excited to learn! We have been working on reading stamina, meaning, and fluency since the beginning of the school year as well as building our mathematics skills. My students are energetic and respond well to hands-on learning opportunities in the classroom.
These six-year-old students are just embarking on their journey through education.
It is my goal to lay the foundation for literacy and math through technology and the sciences, so they will be successful, confident students in the future!
My Project
At the beginning of first grade, kindergarten students enter with a foundation of alphabet letters and sounds. Next, they put this knowledge together to form words, then sentences, then reading books! The books requested in this project will help connect the dots for my low-level, emerging readers.
My first grade students will have access to books at their individual reading level, helping them to work on fluency and build confidence as early readers.
These books will continue to help me, as the teacher, give my students support and guidance in developing as proficient readers and writers in a small group setting. The small group model allows me to teach students in a way that is more focused on their specific needs, accelerating their progress.
