My students need a sun lamp for growing plants in the classroom. My room is very dark with little sun exposure and growing plants for a science project would be difficult if not impossible.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have been pressing hard to get ready for the April OCCT test. My students are still low readers but have made a lot of progress this year. They are moving from 1st grade reading levels to mid 2nd grade levels and still have a way to go. Their math was extremely low but they have been working hard through the months and are on the way to becoming engineers.
The favorite subject for my students has been science.
They love to do investigations and I have done my best to incorporate this into my weekly lessons. We have worked on forces and motion, water and the environment, and are now focusing on living organisms.
The students at my school live in a high poverty area. Last year the school was 100% free lunch because of the low income. The school is located in a Hispanic neighborhood with a large subsidized housing area.
My Project
The students are learning about living organisms starting with plants and moving to animal classification. My classroom is so dark it will be extremely difficult to grow plants for students to study. I have been in several classroom and every one of the rooms could benefit from additional lighting for growing plants.
By purchasing a sun lamp for plants, the students will be able to quickly grow plants in the classroom for science.
These will be studied for plant structure, properties of plants, and comparing and contrasting different plant types. These will be studied over a period of 3 weeks to a month and then the students will take their plants home for their parents or grandparents.
