My Project
Hello! Thanks for visiting our page! I teach an incredible class of young, Autistic preschoolers! Our classroom is designed to support our students in learning all of the foundational skills it takes to go to school; sitting, attending, transitioning, socializing, playing, etc. We are their first school experience! Most of my students are visual learners, and use visual schedules to help them learn how to navigate a classroom. The majority of my students are also not speaking yet, or have very limited language. We already use communication items, like visual icons to communicate, but there's always room to grow!
That's why I want to get my students more materials, like recording buttons, to enhance their communicatiton skills!
What is a recording button, you ask? Think of like a buzzer. You can record your voice into the recording button, and then when pressed it will repeat that phrase back to you. For example: I can pre-record a button to say "hello" when pressed. So when my students and I are at circle time, they can press the button to say hello. For my students, who are not yet speaking, these are wonderful communication devices to encourage them to speak! The plan is to have several available in our classroom, and for different activities, throughout our day.
The other materials - plastic boards, tape - will be used to create new visual schedules for them. The ones they have now are made of pretty old material, and we would like to update them for our students.
These materials would make a world of difference in our classroom, and encourage our students more to find their voices! Thank you for your time!
