My Students
My students can't wait to grow their knowledge in the 2nd grade and in a comforting learning environment.
Having a highly structured and organized classroom with flexibility is essential for my students to reach their maximum potential.
Being a teacher to a wonderful group of 8 students makes my days meaningful.
I am a special education teacher of an 8:1 self contained classroom servicing students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Each student is motivated and excited to learn about the world around them and each are unique as a learner. We are part of a Horizons program which services students with specials needs. At our school, the program is growing thanks to supportive and accepting peers and educators. My students love to learn, create memories and explore concepts about the world around them. In order to do so, they require comfort and environmental adjustments to stay focused and grow.
My Project
As our program is fairly new at our school and additional Horizon classrooms are opening each year, it is important to prepare the environment so that students are prepared to learn. Our room will be separated into two sides This is where our room divider will be useful. Along with traditional instruction, our students receive 1:1 teaching. The room divider will allow for limited distractions. Flexible seating allows our learners who struggle with remaining in one position for a long period of time to get the movement they require while still learning. A pocket cart stand will be used to display various routines so that students have the structure they need and labels will allow students to navigate the supplies in the room independently.
Some of my students best memories are here at our school!
They look forward to coming to school each day and enjoy taking ownership of their classroom. Donations will help prepare my classroom environment so that my students are able to learn and enjoy their time in school with modifications that cater to their individual needs.
