Help give students a sense of ownership and responsibility in their classroom by supplying each student with their own plant to watch grow.
We are three 3rd grade classrooms that get to study plant growth and development for science.
We are a title 1 school, which means 80% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch and every student gets free breakfast each morning. We serve a very diverse population of students that bring a variety of cultures and languages to our classrooms.
My Project
This project will supply three 3rd grade classrooms with supplies to plant, grow and sustain a plant. Each year we have a plant growth and development unit, but because of costs we have to send the containers the plants grow in back to the district. This is a huge disappointment to students, as they have a very strong sense of ownership over their plants and find out that they are unable to take them home. With your help we can send each student home with a plant of their own.
Not only will each student get to take their own plant home, but we can infuse healthy living into the unit by talking about the many fruits and vegetables we are growing.
Students will get the opportunity to try fruits and vegetables that they have never tasted and learn how they can prepare them so that they taste delicious.
