This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We're in the middle of the year and my students show an eagerness to learn. Their positive attitudes and enthusiasm to learn encourages me every day to give them the learning experiences that will last a lifetime. In the past year and a half students were learning from home. It was a difficult year and a half. At that time my students were in Pre-K and Kindergarten; school years that build fundamental skills for kids. The lost time in a classroom led to learning gaps. This year is the time to catch up!
Now that we are in the classroom, my students will have the opportunity for science-based reading.
Knowing what was to come, I began studying the science of learning. It has motivated me to do better for my students. The materials I am asking for focus on sounds in words, separating the sounds, oral cues, and matching letters and spelling patterns to sounds. They will be used during Language Arts centers to make learning fun and independent. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to buy decodable stories that are more age appropriate and aligned with the science of reading. With the decodable readers my students will be able to practice their reading skills in class. All materials will provide the opportunity for learning my students need to close the gap.
