Growing Naturalists in the Everglades

My Students

As my fifth year at my school is starting, I have gotten to know this school and its heart. I was overwhelmed by the parents and students, and the drive they have to learn and support teachers and faculty. Our school is diverse in many ways. We have many different languages and religions represented. We have an extremely high population of ESE students, who require intensive reading and math intervention.

What I love about my school is that the families here love to learn, and the parents are instilling that in their students.

So each student, no matter where they are in their learning journey, is trying and working to be a better student. This specific project is to help us obtain resources such as books, bird identification charts, native plant and animal texts and other items for our 3 day Everglades field trip.

My Project

For the last two years, my 4th grade team of teachers have taken 80 students and parents on an Everglades Experience Field Trip. We explore and adventure many different state parks and stay at an eco-friendly youth camp.

Our desire is for them to love the plants and animals of our great state Florida.

Not only is it part of our standards but it also investing in the future of our country. The items we are requesting are to help our student identify the plants and animals they will see as the trek through the swamp or marsh hammock. We want to supply them with the materials they need to care about each creature and each flower.
