Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a small school. We have just over 80 students in attendance. These students tend to come from low-income families. They don't have a lot of vision for what they can do with their future. Because of this, they can be difficult to motivate. When they get that light turned on, though, they really go for it.
Students at our school don't know their potential.
They just need to see more of what they can do! When they see that the world is open to them, they try harder, and they can achieve great things. I try to give them opportunities for expression and for academic successes. Many of the students will come alive in a new way when given these opportunities. They almost become different people. It makes being a teacher worth it!
My Project
The Music Program here has been growing like crazy these past couple years! It's pretty cool, but I feel like I'm constantly playing catch up with materials and equipment. It's difficult to make sure that everyone has what they need as well as what they need to protect the equipment.
Most of this order is for guitar and ukulele cases so that the students can take the guitars and ukuleles home without damage.
A lot of these students live in fairly unstable conditions, and protecting the instruments can be a challenge. These cases could be a big help.
I am so grateful for all of the support given to these students and this program the last few years. We started with just a few broken guitars, and now we have enough guitars and ukuleles for all of the students. So awesome!
