Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
A majority of my students come from low-income backgrounds and often struggle with food insecurity. The lack of resources often impacts their ability to focus and learn, which can lead to frustration and lack of motivation. Students frequently come to me asking for snacks throughout the day as they have difficulties staying engaged due to being hungry.
Additionally, many of the students that I work with have been impacted by trauma, grief, anxiety, community violence and often need a safe space to regulate and process difficult feelings and emotions.
The books, fidgets, stuffed animals and sensory stickers are essential to their emotional needs and overall wellbeing.
