Growing Literate Students

My students need an interactive whiteboard game, soft seats, and dry erase pockets to support their learning during literacy stations each day.

My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty populated school, I teach students who often begin school below grade level expectations. I believe my students deserve to have many valuable resources at their fingertips as they work to make the necessary gains to be academically successful students.

My classroom is full of students who need a great deal of positive adult attention and must have engaging ways to stay focused and motivated.

I work hard to keep my students focused and attentive as I teach each day to give them the greatest chance of success as possible.

Many of these students live in single parent homes with very limited resources and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. They don't often have the support they need at home to be successful in school. I strive to be the support and strength they need to become productive students who are learning and growing each day. It is my goal to make them feel loved, encouraged, accepted, and successful each and every day.

My Project

My students participate in literacy stations each day. They rotate between various centers that support their learning to read more effectively while I meet with small groups of students and teach reading strategies based on each groups individual needs.

These materials I'm requesting will make their time in literacy stations more productive.

The soft seats will give students a more comfortable place to sit during their independent reading time. The interactive whiteboard game will give them an additional station to rotate to each day in which they will have the opportunity to practice the reading skills they've learned during small group instruction. The dry erase pockets will be useful as I team my small reading groups each. I will use them to put activities into in which the students can write on, therefore saving paper by not having to copy a sheet for each child.
