My Students

My students are currently a mixture of in person and virtual this year. Our day always begins with a google meet where they talk to each other, tell stories, and we talk about the lessons for the day. I truly miss seeing all of my students in person everyday. The majority of my students live with grandparents or chose to stay home for health concerns. It is not uncommon for students to come to Second Grade on a First-Grade level. Because of this, it seems that we are playing catch up for most of the year.

Luckily, I teach in a wonderful school where teachers are willing to share resources and do whatever it takes to help students achieve success.

Although many of my students are facing various challenges including broken homes, being raised by grandparents and high poverty, they are very motivated learners.

My Project

These games and activities will continue to enhance teaching and learning in my classroom. I want my classroom to be a place where students feel safe and comfortable having hard conversations and learning hard lessons. We will use these items to guide meaningful conversations and apply skills from lessons they are learning in class. They will also help students cooperate, learn how to play by the rules and problem solve. In a very screen-centric world, providing hands-on activities and games to allow children to communicate will help strengthen their social skills as well.
