Growing Kinders Dream With Gail Gibson Books

My students need a collection of non-fiction books by Gail Gibson such as Bears, Polar Bears, Wolves, Farming, Coral Reefs, Whales, Frogs, Sea Turtles and Honey Makers.

My Students

My Kindergarten students are ready to learn each day. I want to fill their minds with books that reflect their environment. If they are learning to read books, they might as well read books that give them knowledge about the world around them.

My Title I, public school is located near the sea in a small rural town.

Our school is beautiful with lots of room for learning. Our classroom is very diverse with many Latino students as well as students that have always lived in this area. Jobs are mostly in the tourist season so funds are not always available to pursue dreams. Laughter, learning, and love are the three Ls in our classroom. Kindergarten students need to have a firm foundation in all areas of their academic and social lives. I want my students to know the world around them and learn how and why their environment changes.

My Project

My Kindergarten students need non-fiction books that are colorful and interesting so they can learn about life and and the environment. Of all the authors to choose from, Gail Gibson is the one we have chosen to request our dream project of books to read. We have a few of her books in our classroom and my students enjoy learning to read with her books. I need to motivate my students to want to read. My ELL, (English Language Learners) who have such a difficult time learning English, need to see a picture along with the word and hear how to pronounce these words. These books will help all of my children gain knowledge of animals, insects, and the environment while they are learning to read. Books such as the Honey Makers will entertain my students with the colorful pictures but will tell my students about bees and why they are important to us. The books about bears, polar bears, wolves, and even farm animals will give my students a connection to animals they have never seen.

Reading these non-fiction books by Gail Gibson will open up windows for my students to look at life around them.

This is their Kindergarten year, a new journey academically and socially for them has begun. To fill their minds with facts about the world around them will help them dream of ways they can keep our world clean and safe. I am teaching them to read and write and think about math. I also want to teach them about the environment and the animals that roam the earth. Please help us learn.
