Growing Into A Good Book

My Students

As my year sixth at my school is starting, I have gotten to know this school and its heart. I was overwhelmed by the parents and students, and the drive they have to learn and support teachers and faculty. Our school is diverse in many ways. We have many different languages and religions represented. We have an extremely high population of ESE students, who require intensive reading and math intervention.

What I love about my school is that the families here love to learn, and the parents are instilling that in their students.

So each student, no matter where they are in their learning journey, is trying and working to be a better student. This past year, I embarked on an even bigger journey as I have become CRES Literacy Coach. I have been given this amazing opportunity to work with all grade levels and all students as they learn to read.

My Project

These books will be added to our primary teacher's rooms to help add more fiction and non-fiction to their libraries. Our K-1 students are curious about real life topics such as animals, weather and their senses. We want to make sure we have a book there to help them on their learning journey.

All of these books will be made available to our K-1 team as they teach our students the foundations of phonics.

These books will help in practicing those same skills they learn during small group instruction. Many of the books purchased are aligned to Fountas and Pinnell leveled system so we will know how to help students find that "just right" book during independent or shared reading.
