This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

By the end of the year I want my students to have vivid imaginations and a love of reading. I want them to find joy in reading and see it as something they can do for fun, not just for academic gains.

I have thirty-one students that have a love of learning and growing.

They come to school ready to work and ready to learn. They are a very motivated class. Approximately two-thirds of my class are English Language Learners. Reading is very important to them. They know that by improving their reading they can learn even more and build background about topics they do not currently understand. The school is a small elementary school with many English Language Learners. The school as a whole has very motivated students, just like in my classroom. It is a healthy environment where children can feel safe to learn. They do not have a fear of making mistakes because they know that their classmates and their teachers are there to help them learn from them and grow.

My Project

The students will use the additional storage in the At-Your-Seat Storage Sacks to store books they are interested in reading. During silent reading the students read for an allotted amount of time and then they are given time to reflect on what they have read. Sometimes students finish a book and need to select another one. At times it can be very disruptive for me to send students to the library during this time. Since I have so many students moving around the room very difficult. If the students already have their next book at their seat they will not disturb the remainder of the class by going to the classroom library.

These donations will help me support my students in their reading.

Reading is something that we do for our entire lives. I want my students to be able to read for knowledge and enjoyment not only this school year but for life.
