My Project

In my classroom, social-emotional learning is just as important as academic growth. Many of my students are navigating big emotions, anxiety, frustration, sadness, and excitement, often without the tools or vocabulary to express how they feel. To support their emotional development, I am requesting a collection of books that teach students about mental health, feelings, and how to manage emotions in healthy ways.

With the right resources, we can help students build resilience, empathy, and self-awareness that will benefit them far beyond the classroom walls.

One of the most effective and engaging tools I’ve found for young learners is the Little Spot book series by Diane Alber. These beautifully illustrated books introduce complex emotional concepts in an age-appropriate and accessible way. Each book focuses on a different emotion, like anger, anxiety, kindness, or happiness, and includes simple strategies students can use to recognize and cope with those feelings. The characters are memorable and relatable, making it easier for students to reflect on their own experiences and feel less alone in their emotional journeys.

With your support, we can create a safe space where students feel seen, heard, and equipped to manage their mental health. This book collection will be used during class read-alouds, in our calm-down corner, and as part of social-emotional mini-lessons. Every child deserves the chance to understand and take care of their mental well-being, and these books can be the first step in that life-changing journey.
