My Project

My scholars are 4th and 5th graders that attend Cleveland Public schools. I have the privilege of teaching math to eighty 4th and 5th graders. My scholars are inspirational. Despite the extreme poverty, (100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch) violence and limited educational resources in their community, they are determined to carve out a better future than their present conditions. My students come to school eager to prepare themselves to become doctors, attorneys, entrepreneurs, and leaders of industry!

By diligently working, assistance from outside communities, and encouragement from our learning community, each of my scholars can reach their full potential.

My scholars motivate me each day. I just want to give them the best of me, so that they can go on to be the best that they can be. As we strive to be successful, we all need assistance at times. Often overlooked, our basic classroom needs are lacking.

We love to have math talks and debates. During our math lessons students motivate each other. One phrase that you will hear often in class is "Justify your answer!" That means our daily math debates have begun. The students are encouraged to demonstrate to the class their understanding of a topic or answer to a problem. We use our class whiteboard and individual whiteboards so that we won't kill too many trees; however, our poor markers run dry quickly. We are asking for a supply of dry erase markers, pencils and pencil sharpener to demonstrate all the knowledge that we acquire. We are also asking for fidgets for those times that we need to be able to relax our anxiety in order to focus on success.
