Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My energetic students are in preschool and kindergarten. They are extremely curious and love spending time outside. This summer I want to give them the opportunity to connect with the outdoors in a new way: through gardening!
We are starting our school garden from the ground up, literally.
My students need gardening beds, a large amount of high-quality soil, gardening tools, watering cans and trellises and stakes to help them design and grow a creative and engaging school garden. We will also start some of our heat loving plants, like tomatoes and cucumbers, right inside our classroom with portable garden stands and peat pots.
We plan to spend time daily checking in on our plants, watering, weeding, playing, and reading in our summer school garden. I am also requesting a book of school garden curriculum and projects so that we can spend many learning hours in our garden. I am looking forward to my students engaging in all aspects of growing their own food and hopefully creating a lasting tradition at our school.
