I need a second monitor, a mouse, and a noise-cancelling headset to attend workshops to improve my knowledge of the science of reading and differentiated instruction because these are offered remotely.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a reading specialist, I serve elementary students who are struggling to read due to hardships, such as homelessness, impoverishment, and/or dyslexia. I need to keep current in the science of reading, differentiation, and assessment tools amongst other researched-based approaches to best serve my students. School is here, and although in-person classes have resumed, most professional development opportunities continue to be online. Online tools have improved, but having to attend all these important sessions from a single small laptop screen is challenging.
Sure, we have made it work, but it takes a lot of work to make it work.
There is just so much switching between windows and that slows most teachers down and can be really confusing.
Adding a second monitor, an ergonomic mouse, and a noise cancelling headset is probably the best thing teachers can do for efficiency, and to keep focused on learning to improve our teaching practice. Study after study has shown that having a second monitor boosts productivity. In addition, adding a mouse, and a headset to your laptop setup will really help with the comfort and health while learning remotely.
