Children will be learning skills they can use and share in the future with others. My students live in a city. They have very little knowledge of how vegetables are grown. When asked where fruits and vegetables come from, some students will answer they come from the store.
I want to teach my students how plants grow and how rewarding it is to work and cultivate food.
We can not grow in the soil around our building because it is a shared space. Growing in the classroom we hope to build a community garden as a school. Starting with a hydroponic grow lab we can grow plants in water. These supplies will help the kids work with the lab while in the classroom.
We will be studying about the plants' life cycle and working in groups to make hypothesis, diagrams, and reporting out our findings through group presentations. The planting seed pods will allow my students to plant them and see how the plants grow. This project will be used to teach plant life cycles, nutrition, and patience.
