My Students
We are a neighborhood school serving the community since l927. In addition to general education students, our students represent 23 language groups, many of them English language learners, and students with special needs. Our mission is to develop joyful learners by providing them with support, encouragement, and opportunities for challenge.
Our students are enthusiastic learners who thrive on creativity and being challenged!
They are motivated by high-interest level curriculum and hands-on learning opportunities. They also love being able to explore, create new things, and are highly motivated by student centered learning. We are always looking for ways to provide them with tools that will help them maximize their potential.
My Project
Children are often given very scripted instructions for assignments and look for that one right answer to a problem. I would like to provide them with opportunities to create and problem solve without feeling they need to have that one right answer.
Tinkering gives kids experience working with open-ended projects, goal-directed but unscripted, that require active hands and active minds.
Through tinkering, kids can build anything, and through building, learn anything.
These tinkering labs align with many of the Next Generation Science Standards. They provide an engaging, hands-on method to bring these standards to life and enable a deeper understanding of the core disciplines.
