Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students participate in the AVID program and focus on collaboration in academics. We emphasize career and technical programs as well as academic rigor and literacy.

We focus on designing classroom activities that allow students to take ownership of the content.

Our teachers create opportunities for students to investigate, talk, explore, and come to their own understanding. Our school is committed to helping students who have the desire to go to college by completing a rigorous curriculum, however, they may also be the first student in their family to attend college. AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success and we are committed to helping students achieve their dream.

My Project

These seventy copies of the novel Seedfolks by P. Fleischman will make a difference in our students learning by helping them understand their role in a community; how we affect others. Seedfolks has been drawn upon to teach tolerance and empathy as students discover this multicultural community from Cleveland, Ohio.

Throughout the novel a "sense of community sprouts and spreads" and I want to bring that feeling into my classroom as we too grow a small garden of various peppers.

Your donation will create two class sets of the novel and allow us to grow a mini garden right in class, so students can have a hands-on experience, just like the characters.
