Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My scholars are motivated, determined, smart, and loving children that love to learn and strive to lead. They come from all different types of homes but the one thing they all seem to have in common is that they don’t access to technology or STEM resources at home (or at school). My students are constantly asking to use devices. We are lacking the resources and funds for my students to use our technology for anything other than math and reading. For my students to be able to compete with their peers from more affluent areas and internationally it is vital that they start to get invested in coding, engineering, robotics, and physics. It is my job as their teacher to provide the resources in the classroom that will provide them with the education that they so rightfully deserve. They inspire me each and every day to find new resources and programs to support them the best way I can.

My Project

I envision my students using the iPads to engage in the Osmo programs during their center learning time. Each center has no more than 4 students at any one activity. The Osmo attaches to an iPad and projects the screen onto a mat on the table. Multiple students can use the device at one time. I have one iPad in my classroom, so this will only give them more meaningful experiences with that device. I am requesting 3 more iPads so more students can access Osmo's interactive activities. Osmo will give students the opportunity to learn how to draw which improves their small motor skills. They will also learn phonics through the word game. While using the Tangram game, students will be enhancing their spacial reasoning skills. The Newton program provided by Osmo introduces students to physics. Osmo is just the start. I plan on adding more STEM apps once I've got them hooked. The iPads are going to be our launching pad

Donations for this project will give students the opportunity to use technology to engage in and learn about robotics, coding, and engineering which is something not included in our district's curriculum.

Students will become better critical thinkers and will be able to interact with their peers in a way that fosters shared learning. My students will gain a better understanding of​ reading, math, engineering, and physics.
