My Project
My students are a bright, inquisitive, and active group in the Montessori program at the Detroit Public Schools Community District. We do not have a schoolwide library and having a robust, active classroom library benefits my students daily.
These new books will expand our classroom library, allowing students more options during their daily reading time, and the new bins will help organize our library, making our books more appealing and accessible.
Exciting books are key to building strong readers. My class is a multi-grade classroom with first to third-grader students. Multi-age classrooms are a hallmark of Montessori classes. I have readers just gaining their confidence with simple books as well as students reading well beyond the third-grade level. The Elephant and Piggie books continue to be favorites in our classroom and this full set will be very popular, encouraging sight word reading and laughter. The Dragon Masters Series has recently been discovered by a group of students and will help them develop stamina as they read this early chapter book series. The I Survived series and Fly Guy books are in response to student requests.
The new bins will be used to organize picture books and book series, helping us keep our books orderly and accessible within the classroom. The cardstock, laminating pouches and Teachers Pay Teachers gift card allow me to make additional learning tools for students throughout the year as I follow their interests and needs. I'm confident these resources will both increase my students' enjoyment of reading and expand their knowledge of the world! We truly appreciate your support.
