Grounding Our Learning

Help me give my students a new carpet that will ground our classroom and the work we do in our space.

My Students

This group of students is a mix of sensitive souls and non-nonsense folks. We love to laugh together and all of us enjoy a good pun. There are 21 children and 1 adult, making 22 curious souls gathering on a regular basis to ask questions, reflect, push forward, wonder and learn together. Most of us love to be outdoors, even if it is a rainy, gray Northwest Day. We also love to share stories - both written and verbal. Mostly, we just love to be together and be joyful about learning and growing with one another.

My Project

We spend a big part of our days meeting in our learning community on our carpet. Our carpet functions as our morning circle meeting space, as well as our space for learning with partners, and in small groups. When it is choice time, we use our carpet for building on and during snack, it is our gathering space as well. Our carpet centralizes our room and is where we consistently come back together. The carpet we have now is from a years ago teacher who didn't want to take it with them. It is ratty and stained and ready to be replaced.

The new carpet that we are requesting also sections off space for individuals.

We are working on keeping our hands to ourselves and having spaces drawn into the carpet will assist us in this endeavor.
