As a special education teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom daily.
Despite these challenges, I want to provide my students with positive & meaningful learning experiences.
My students are my world!
Many of my students are raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I focus on their strengths, not their disabilities! I may not be able to control their home lives, but, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. I am fortunate enough to be able to spend time with my students every day! By doing this creatively and positively, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue a path of academic success.
In receiving these gross motor and sensory materials such as stress balls and wooden wobble boards, my students would be able to focus, attend, and engage in the classroom environment.
