"Technology is a tool, not a learning outcome." Bill Ferriter
So often, technology can simply become a replacement for "traditional" ways of doing things in the classroom.
Technology needs to be a medium to allow students to create digital artifacts of their learning that were never possible before.
The students in my classroom are inquisitive fourth and fifth graders who ask constant questions about the things that interest them, then set out to find the answers. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, with various levels of technology available to them outside of school. These students are avid learners.
We are constantly utilizing Google Classroom to help extend our learning, but need more devices to make this a seamless part of our classroom. I feel if I can increase the technology they are exposed to in my classroom, they will be better prepared for the technological world we live in despite their circumstances outside of school. Additionally, these technology tools help make my classroom more relevant to the way students should be learning in the 21st century.
My Project
I am passionate about incorporating technology into my teaching. Through my time at annual technology conferences, I have spent many hours learning about I can utilize Chromebooks and Google Classroom to enhance our curriculum, while teaching real-world technology skills.
Despite budget limitations, I am determined to put a variety of tools in the hands of my students, to give them the opportunity to learn, grow, create, collaborate, and develop a deep love and curiosity for lifelong learning.
I want to put these requested four Lenovo Chromebooks in the hands of the yellow pod students to encourage and empower them to develop their collaboration skills while we work on Book Club in reading, text analysis in writing, and "The Amazing Race" in social studies. The Chromebooks will not only help the students access Google Classroom, but will also support all students with everyday activities from practicing instructional skills on various educational websites to researching topics for reports and projects.
