Help me give my students the opportunity to learn about money and financial literacy in a developmentally and child-friendly way!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. de Guzman's classroom raised $259

My Students
Our school is a Level I school, with six hundred and fifty-six elementary students from pre-k through eighth grade. About 48.8% of those students come from low-income households, 19.2% of the students are diverse learners, and 13.3% have limited English skills. Our classroom is comprised of pre-kindergarten students in a multi-age setting.
In our classroom, there are high student expectations of independence and self-monitoring.
We believe that the overall understanding of one’s experiences is a genuine form of knowledge. This is why we saw the importance of allowing the child freedom to learn in a carefully prepared environment. The materials that we need in the classroom will aid in their self-exploration in which they can discover their strengths and weaknesses as they challenge the confines of their own realities.
My Project
When students engage in-store play, they often display the basic concept of the exchange of money to purchase goods. They will understand that money is used to buy things. From that basic knowledge and understanding, I can use this opportunity to connect our learning in counting and teach my students about money and financial literacy in a developmentally and child-friendly way!
I would like to ask for your support to help transform our dramatic play area into a grocery store with a functioning cash register and shelves fully stocked with healthy groceries.
This project will enable me to observe students while they are in authentic play experiences. They will engage in-store play, design their own store signs, and also organize the items for their store in baskets they could label. Thank you so much for your support!
More than half of students from low‑income households
