This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Help me provide essential tools that will support my amazing 2nd graders, many of whom are learning English as their second language at our Title I school. My students learn best in a cooperative, group setting, but they also need quiet, private spaces and the right tools to show what they know during individual assessments.
This project requests Pencil Grips, an electric pencil sharpener, and desk dividers.
The pencil grips help students develop fine motor skills for comfortable, confident handwriting—an important part of learning English and all subjects. The electric sharpener keeps pencils ready without interrupting learning time. Desk dividers create private spaces during tests and independent work, reducing distractions so students can focus and perform their best.
What makes my students special is their resilience and eagerness to learn despite challenges. Many are bilingual learners working hard to build fluency and confidence in English while growing academically. These tools will help them write more easily, stay focused, and feel confident, which research shows reduces dropout risks and boosts academic success.
The goals of this project are to improve my students’ handwriting and focus, support their English language growth, and create a classroom environment where they can thrive both collaboratively and independently.
