My Project
Last year, our school successfully funded a grill/smoker, creating hands-on learning experiences that combined culinary skills, teamwork, and cultural appreciation. With this incredible resource now in place, we are excited to continue fueling student learning by securing essential supplies and materials to support our Grill For Skills project.
Through this initiative, students explore real-world applications of math, science, and nutrition while developing essential life skills.
They engage in interactive lessons on food safety, measurement conversions, and the science behind grilling and smoking techniques. More importantly, they collaborate on group projects, enhancing their teamwork and communication skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for diverse culinary traditions.
Our students in Keaʻau, Hawaiʻi, have a unique connection to food, with many coming from families rooted in farming, fishing, and hunting. Providing ongoing support for this project means equipping students with ingredients, utensils, and other essential materials that allow them to fully experience cooking as both an educational tool and a cultural bridge. By reinforcing sustainability and local food traditions, we help students take pride in their heritage while building practical skills for the future.
