Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day, my students face challenges before they enter the school building, ranging from extreme poverty, single-parent households where the parent works multiple jobs, students with incarcerated parents, and many students who live in shelters. 

This past year some of my students have experienced the death of a loved one and need a safe space to grieve.

My Project

I am a school Social Worker in a middle school in the South Bronx seeking funding for books to support my students who have experienced the death of a loved one and are still grieving.

Next school year all of our students will be in-person learners and are returning with an abundance of issues, including those who have experienced the death of a loved one.

Several of my students had family members die over the past year due to COVID-19, sickness, or old age. I want to provide a safe space for these students to come together to share their feels while they grieve and know that they are not alone.

Having a curriculum and books that provide activities will provide me with the tools I need to facilitate support grief groups.
